without return. So we have to think of other ways to save the idea of truth and the establishment of facts. Nostalgia for the great
heroic figures of Reason, from Socrates onwards, must not obscure the passion that nourishes the desire for truth. It is from these
affects that the demand for truth can be rekindled: resistance to untruths, the will to convince, the alliance of doubt and
indignation are the resources that enable us to still believe in truth.

La nostalgie des grandes figures héroïques de la Raison, depuis Socrate, ne doivent pas occulter la passion qui nourrit le désir du vrai. C'est à partir de ces affects que l'exigence de vérité peut être ranimée : la résistance devant les contre-vérités, la volonté de convaincre, l'alliance du doute et de l'indignation sont les ressources qui permettent de croire encore à la vérité.
Ce volume réunit, pour la première fois en français, l'intégralité des travaux préparatoires de Friedrich Nietzsche, alors âgé de 24 ans, pour une thèse de doctorat intitulée Le concept de l'organique depuis Kant. À l'époque où il envisageait cette thèse, en 1868, Nietzsche achevait sa formation universitaire à Leipzig et était déjà reconnu comme un spécialiste de la philologie classique. Les études du présent volume - bilingue - dont le vecteur principal est d'ordre métaphysique et théologique, portent dans une première partie sur certains aspects de la philosophie de Christian Wolff, à savoir la question du fondement théologique de l'ontologie, la problématique complexe des rapports entre philosophie et Révélation, et le problème crucial pour l'ontologie qu'est la création ex nihilo.
Dans la seconde partie, il est question des rapports entre la pensée de Wolff et celle de Kant, notamment en ce qui concerne les « résidus » wolffiens dans la première théologie de Kant; par ailleurs on reconstruira le ternaire « savoir, foi opinion » dans la constellation inaugurée par Wolff.
Les études de la troisième partie portent sur la philosophie de Kant. On essaie de montrer d'une part comment la question de la métaphysique et de sa réforme demeure une préoccupation centrale dans l'évolution de sa pensée. This volume presents selected papers from the first symposium on Hermeneutics and Translation Studies held at Cologne in 2011. Translational Hermeneutics works at the intersection of theory and practice. It foregrounds both hermeneutical philosophy and the various traditions - especially phenomenology - to which it is indebted, in order to explore the ways in which the individual person figures at the center of the mediating process of translation. Translational Hermeneutics offers alternative ways to understand the process of translating: it is a holistic and strategic process that enhances understanding by assisting the transmission of meaning in and across multiple social and cultural contexts. The papers in this collection accordingly provide a preliminary outline of Translational Hermeneutics. Gathered together, these papers broach a new discipline within Translation Studies.

This book examines the foundations of cosmopolitanism and ways of conceiving non-totalizing foundations of cosmopolitanism. The core idea shared by all cosmopolitan views is that all human beings belong to a single community and the ultimate units of moral concern are individual human beings, not states or particular forms of human associations. Nevertheless, the attempts to ground a political theory on overarching universal principles, inevitable in constructing a cosmopolitan theory give to cosmopolitanism a certain temptation to foundationalism that is in contradiction with the plurality of social, cultural, political, religious interpretative standpoints in the contemporary world. The book explores the possibilities of overcoming this contradiction inherent in advancing a cosmopolitan theory. The innovative aspects of the book are in its focus on foundations/grounds of cosmopolitanism and in its attempts to advance approaches of cosmopolitanism that will avoid firm/given foundations.

Images have been a remarkably constant preoccupation for the phenomenological tradition. Beginning with Husserl's early investigation of image-consciousness, with its threefold conceptual articulation of material Bildding, appearing Bildobjekt, and referential Bildsujet (Hua'XXIII), phenomenological accounts of the image can be found in the classic works of Martin Heidegger, Jean-Paul Sartre, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and Eugen Fink, all the way to current phenomenologically inspired approaches such as those of Jean-Luc Marion or Georges Didi-Huberman. The plural in « phenomenologies of the image » stresses the diversity of the aspects that these analyses have addressed : the relationship between image and perception, image and imagination, image and embodiment; the issue of the world-image; and the question of the dialectics between the visible and the invisible.
The texts gathered here for this special issue bespeak the relevance of the topic of the image both for classical phenomenology and for contemporary phenomenology.
"The question of the nature of time is as old as philosophy itself.
Before philosophy, time was not problematized, it was a pure common-sensical matter. There were various experiences of time, and, accordingly, different words to name it. Whitehead's solution of the temporal conundrum lies in the concept of ""creative advance of nature"" that is systematically elucidated only in Process and Reality (1929).
To understand the creative advance of nature, one needs to interpret the togetherness of its three aspects -creativity qua concrescence, effi cacy qua transition, vision qua initial subjective aim-, and this provides us with the core meaning of time: (i) genuine novelty appears in the World, (ii) past events are, so to speak, ontologically memorized, and (iii) there is an upward trend in terms of «intensity» of events. These three complementary requirements refresh in their own way the Greek triple understanding of time: time is «aiôn,» lived duration (outside physical time) and destiny, but it is also «chronos,» causal time, and «kairos,» timeliness or the appropriate moment for action."

Bei Schelling tritt sie innerhalb einer dem Bewusstsein gleichwertigen Naturphilosophie als Prinzip der Scheidung im Ungrund auf, damit sich das Absolute offenbaren kann. Auch Husserls Hyletik bleibt der intentionalen Noetik untergeordnet, weil das Urimpressionale durch Zeit wie Teleologie bestimmt wird, um nur in der monadischen Triebgemeinschaft eine gewisse Eigenständigkeit zu erlangen. Letztere wird erst durch die materiale Phänomenologie Henrys eines pathischen Lebens als rein immanente Wirklichkeit allen Erscheinens analysiert und für Natur wie Kultur fruchtbar gemacht. Die Untersuchung berücksichtigt gleichfalls die Tradition von Empirismus, Sensualismus und Materialismus, die der Materie einen angemessenen Platz verleihen wollte, aber nur die neuzeitliche Verkürzung alles Kosmologischen auf messbare Daten vorbereitete, anstatt das hyletische Grundverhältnis im subjektiven Empfinden einer originär fleischlichen Materie zu sehen. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt werden auch Aisthetik/Ästhetik aufgegriffen, so dass sich insgesamt ein kritischer Überblick zum abendländischen Materieverständnis ergibt.
Ursprungsfragen werden in der Metapsychologie für unentscheidbar angesehen, da die ständigen Triebumwandlungen ein dezentriertes Subjekt zur Folge haben, dessen Schicksal nur durch nachträgliche Umschreibungen zu einer gewissen Konfliktentspannung führen kann. Der Affekt bezeichnet für eine radikale Phänomenologie die Wirklichkeit allen Erscheinens und liegt daher dem triebhaft Unbewussten noch voraus. Das Buch untersucht die Frage, wie sich Affekt/Triebschicksal in Bezug auf ein originäres Begehren verstehen lassen, das kein endgültiges Triebziel kennt, sondern auf die unbenennbare Einheit einer Lebensimmanenz in jedem Empfinden und Handeln zurückverweist. Insofern beinhaltet der reine Affekt keinen Todestrieb, ermöglicht jedoch jene Sublimierung, die für Freud eine gewisse Synthese zwischen Lust- und Realitätsprinzip zulässt. Da sich diese Möglichkeit besonders in der Ästhetik zeigt, kann dadurch zugleich der Zusammenhang von Affekt/Pathos als Originarität von Fiktion und Imaginärem aufgewiesen werden. Insgesamt erlaubt der Bezug von Trieb, Affekt und Kunst ein ursprüngliches Kulturverständnis, das der schöpferischen Einbildungskraft mehr Raum zuerkennt, als es der moderne Objektivitätsbegriff zulässt. In methodischer Hinsicht erweist sich die Auseinandersetzung mit der Tiefenpsychologie, welche von radikal phänomenologischen Analysen zur Zeitlichkeit und Transzendenz umrahmt wird, als Erarbeitung einer Meta-Genealogie, die im Sinne originärer Erprobung für alle subjektiven Erfahrungsbereiche relevant ist.

Francis Bacon introduced his contemporaries to a new way of investigating nature. He called it «natural and experimental history». Despite its rather traditional name, Bacon's natural and experimental history was a new discipline: it comprised new ideas, new practices and new models of collaborative research. This new discipline was, in many ways, a surprisingly successful project. It provided early modern naturalists with tools, methods and models for both investigating nature and writing about their subject. It also offered a set of norms and values for guiding research. And yet, this new discipline was not a science of nature - it was more like an art. This book aims to trace the emergence, evolution and reception of Francis Bacon's art of experimental natural history.
