Isabel Allende

Née à Lima (Pérou) le 02 août 1942
Nièce du président Salvador Allende et fille de diplomate, la jeune Isabel prend vite le goût des voyages. Après la mort de son père en 1945, elle suit sa mère en Bolivie et au Liban avant de retourner au Chili. Devenue journaliste, elle travaille à partir de 1964, sur des documentaires, des shows télévisés et écrit dans le magazine féminin Paula. En 1971, elle révèle ses talents d'auteur avec plusieurs pièces de théâtre comme 'El embajador', 'La Balada del medio pelo' et 'Los Siete Espejos'. Mais en 1975, fuyant la dictature de Pinochet après le coup d'Etat de 1973 contre son oncle Salvador, elle s'exile avec son mari et ses enfants à Caracas, au Venezuela. Elle travaille pour la télévision, écrit des chroniques pour le quotidien d'information El Nacional, mais aussi des contes pour enfants. Elle se lance dans le roman en publiant 'La Casa de los espiritus' en 1982 dont le succès immédiat fait d'elle l'un des plus grands auteurs latino-américains. Installée en Californie, elle écrit successivement 'De amor y de sombra', 'Eva Luna', 'Los Cuentos de Eva Luna', 'El Plan infinito', 'Paula', 'Afrodita' et 'Hija de la fortuna', tous traduits dans une trentaine de langues et vendus à des millions d'exemplaires. Depuis le retrait de Pinochet, Isabel Allende est revenue au Chili et fait partie des personnalités les plus marquantes du Parti socialiste chilien, luttant pour les droits et les libertés du peuple chilien.
